About our tees…

One thing about Live Chic and livechic.ca…we love to support local. We found the Skinny Sweats brand at one of the buying shows. This week we are featuring her tees with a special price…see what it’s all about.

Skinny Sweats is a local line of loungewear founded by Adrienne Butikofer in May 2012. Over the years, her Toronto based sweats biz has grown to include pants, t-shirts and sweatshirts with the help of manufacturer Chook Bodywear in Markham and a local sewing contractor in Scarborough, Ontario.

Butikofer takes pride in the work she does with these manufacturers, overseeing every step of the process and makes all of her own patterns and samples. For made to order pieces sold on her online store, Butikofer hand sews them for her customers. Canadian made!

Since graduating from the Fashion Design Program at Fanshawe College in 2003, Adrienne has gained valuable experience working with manufacturers and ensuring her vision and joy translates into her products.

Stylish Gym Wear…

Outfits for the gym
Stylish gym wear

Let be honest, going to the gym isn’t exactly recognized as a social gathering; most women, have the habit of throwing on an old pair of leggings and a tired old sweatshirt when burning up a sweat. However, having the right gym essentials is a motivating factor and influencer when running on that treadmill.

A supportive sports bra is key – purchasing a well-fitted bra can make all the difference in the world when acquiring in other gym supplies. Our personal favorite is the Victoria Secret’s Sport Collection. They provide a high quality collection and offer 3 support levels of bras which come in a complete range of sizes. A more fitted and slimming style for gym tops is popular now. It is important to look for fabrics with performance enhancing materials, as it prevents sweat and assists in keeping a cool workout.

Choosing the right bottoms will vary based upon the type of exercise you will be active in. Such pants can range from straight leggings to yoga stretch pants. We suggest purchasing a pair of high quality leggings that will last a few years. Such brands we advise include; Nike, Lulu Lemon, Victoria Secret, Adidas and Puma.

Purchasing footwear for the gym is essential. It is important to purchase running shoes that provide good support. New Balance has always kept their customers’ needs as their core value. We strongly suggest purchasing these shoes, as they are chic, sleek and practical for daily gym use.

Ladies, its time to replenish your workout wear and learn how to burn those calories in style!

Tie your style of scarf…

We all love scarves! Most of us have many in our wardrobe. We have them in different styles and colours.

We use them all year round. But how many of us know more than two ways to wear them? Let’s add to that number by learning a few more ways to tie a scarf…

The scarf that we will use today is a large square scarf shape.

Styling Spring 2016…

colourful spring print
colourful spring print

It’s not always easy keeping up with the fashion trends, especially when they change EVERY season but fear not, we have a few fashion suggestions to guide you through the top 3 trends of Spring 2016 and how you can transform these looks to stay current.

#1 Forget the minimalism and let your inner artist out. This season is all about pairing unexpected prints and colours together to create a bright and vibrant look. That being said, you can’t just throw two crazy pieces together and think that it will work.

Minimalism has been in for a few seasons now, so start off with an unexpected colour block. Are you brave enough to wear ‘Buttercup’ and ‘Peach Echo’ together? Or if you’re feeling really brave try pairing different geometric shapes together. Try this…if your shirt has polka dots on it, try a bottom with more rounded shapes in the print.

#2 Shimmer… probably one of the trickiest trends to tackle this year. How do you wear it without looking tacky? Go for shimmers that have a more neutral colour and pair it with something colourful. DO NOT put shimmer on shimmer! Oh yeah, and sparkle and sequins is not in the same category as shimmer, so avoid at all costs.

#3 Victorian is a trend in almost every designer’s collection showing high necklines, ruffled sleeves and regal touches mixed with a modern flare. We should expect to see this styling in many collections this spring. The key to pulling of this look is putting the modern touch on the outfit. Wear a higher neckline and show a little more leg or wear a pair of super skinnies and heels. Traditional Victorian style…modernized.

New spring trends are arriving every week at Live Chic…check out our Live Chic Facebook page.

Style a blanket scarf…

Scarves might just be the favourite accessory of the winter season. If I had to shop for just one thing for the rest of my life it might be scarves. And…scarves aren’t just for the colder weather.

Scarves are amazing and can take any outfit up a notch. They are one of the most versatile accessories in the shops, whether I’m wearing a thick knit one in the winter or a light one on a warmer spring day.

But how to tie a scarf?

We asked the Fashion Merchandising students at Live Chic what their favorite methods are and came up with 4 different scarf tying ideas. Some are classics and some will be your new favorite thing.

Teila shows us how…
